What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid includes forms of monetary assistance you can receive from ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø, the state and the federal government. Some forms of aid don’t need to be repaid, including grants and scholarships. However, federal direct loans and private student loans do need to be repaid.

Complete the free online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov.

If you are a Georgia resident, apply for Georgia state aid online at .

You must:

  • have graduated from an eligible high school located in Georgia or have lived as a legal Georgia resident for a minimum of 12 consecutive months prior to the start of your first term at ºÚÁÏÉçÇøÍø
  • be an undergraduate student
  • not have exceeded the eligibility limits for aid

Things to keep in mind

  • You must submit your FAFSA application to qualify for financial aid
  • FAFSA applications cover one academic year, so a new application must be submitted each year to receive aid
  • Eligibility for need-based  grants is contingent on information from the FAFSA application and tax information

Did you know you can work on campus to help pay for your tuition?

The Federal Work-Study Program provides funds for part-time jobs on campus for interested students who demonstrate financial need. Participating in the Federal Work-Study Program means you’ll be able to earn money on campus to help pay your tuition. You must first file your FAFSA to determine your eligibility for the program.

Loan Limits

Students borrowing a Federal Direct Student Loan are subject to maximum allowable loan limits. The Aggregate Maximum Loan Limit restricts the amount of Federal Student Loans that may be borrowed over a student’s college career.

Dependent Undergraduate Students $31,000 *No more than $23,000 can be in subsidized loans
Independent Undergraduate Students (and dependent students whose parents were denied a parent PLUS loan) $57,500 *No more than $23,000 can be in subsidized loans
Graduate and Professional Students $138,500 *This includes the student’s undergraduate loans
